Rates
I mix all kinds of music and do mix reviews for folks who want to get better at mixing.
Mixing
- $150 usd per mix
- 10% off EPs
- 20% off albums
Includes as many revisions as needed for you to be happy with the results. Generally between 3-5 revisions is enough to get a mix to a place where we are both satisfied with it, but if it takes a few more rounds then that's just fine. We are working with music and it's an organic process.
Disclaimer: I don't do autotune for creative effect or for tuning out of tune things. These are production tasks. I may tune the odd off key note if it's bothering me, but please don't knowingly send me out of tune stuff with the expectation that I will fix it.
Included deliverables:
- 32-bit floating point uncompressed file(s) without limiter, ready to be sent to mastering (which I recommend).
- 24 or 16 bit (depending on the bit depth of your files) uncompressed file(s) with my limiting (just like the ones you'll be approving).
Note: If it's the first time we are working together, I will only send you these after the last payment is received. Until then I will be sending you mp3s. If you want to receive uncompressed files while working you need to pay the full gig upfront.
Vocals + Instrumental Special
- $50 usd per mix
I offer a special rate for those who essentially want to gel together a vocal track on top of an instrumental track. I'll dedicate up to four hours in total to this mix (including revisions). I won't do Autotune/Melodyne, so if you want that your vocals must have it printed when I get them. I'll do everything else: compression, EQ and whatever else I think the song calls for. If your tracks sound good, I'll make the final mix sound even better.
This offer is not just for hip hop, trap and such. If you have any kind of instrumental track (like solo guitar, piano, ukulele, banjo, etc, etc), maybe even a karaoke track, and you want to mix your vocal recording on them, this special can be used. Again, keep in mind that this is a rather quick mix. I take it seriously and give it my best, but some mixes need a little more time to be perfect.
Conditions: 1 instrumental/beat track + up to 3 vocal tracks (including ad-libs and whatnot). This rate allows for just TWO rounds of revisions. It has to be payed upfront in full and no other discounts apply to it.
Note: If there is anything wrong with your tracks (poor recording, very weak performance, the instrumentals are a 128kbps mp3 that sounds terrible, etc) I may politely turn it down if you intend to publish it. I don't want to take your money if I can't do a good job.
Full Access
- $70 usd per mix
If you are interested in getting full insight into what I've done to your music, this is for you. I will print multitracks (all the individual channels) with my processing and I will also provide you with a full documentation of my mixing session and processing chains (ie: screenshots of each plugin on each channel), volume levels, automation, panning, etc.
It essentially gives you access to details of how the mix was made, which can be useful if you are interested in learning how to mix.
Includes:
- Multitracks with my processing (16-bit files)
- Document detailing my processing chains (with screenshots) and overall notes on the mix
- One round of questions that you can ask me about the mix
Note: This is an additional feature to my mixing services, so you need to first hire me to mix your music before you can request this.
Mastering (I don't do it)
Mastering is probably the most misunderstood stage of music production. It's often thought as the stage in which a recording is made to sound professional, or like a proper song. That's wrong. If your final mix isn't already what you want your song to be, if it doesn't sound good, there is not much that can be done in mastering to improve it.
Mastering is all about a second opinion, about getting a pair of trained and fresh ears on your mixes. It's an objective check up, quality assurance, as well as an opportunity to highlight the best aspects of a mix. So if you see individuals happily offering mixing and mastering as a bundle, like it's adding fries to your burger, know that they are selling you snake oil.
Some studios offer both services legitimately. They have mastering engineers and dedicated rooms for mastering with full range monitoring, etc.
I don't do mastering for my own mixes.
What I do is deliver two versions of a mix: one that is ready for mastering (without a limiter and with some headroom) and one that has been limited and sounds loud. Anyone can make a loud mix, that's not what mastering is.
If you don't plan on taking your mixes to mastering, the loud versions I send you are good enough to share with people, post on Soundcloud, YouTube, etc. Others would call this version "mastered". Not me, because I have respect for the craft of professional mastering, and still I'm giving you the exact same thing that those selling "mixing + mastering" are.
If you are planning on a more serious release, such as on streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, etc), my professional recommendation is that you send the mixes to mastering.
Mastering can be a lot more affordable than mixing, since it takes a lot less time (a song can be mastered in less than an hour). If you work with me I can send you a carefully curated list of professional mastering houses and engineers I personally recommend with options for any budget. Most of those are located in the US and the UK. If you would rather work with a local in a different country, particularly to attend a session in your city, I'll be glad to help you find a good choice (at no extra charge). Do let me know.
I also make myself available to any mastering engineer you decide to work with (do send them my contact info). So that if they hear something that should need correcting, I can load the session, address the issue and send them the fixed version. This will also be at no extra charge.
